Canker sores: they can be annoying and even painful. If you have a canker sore, our Dr. Stephen Henry DDS dental team has some helpful guidelines for you to help your release your discomfort and liver a more carefree life. We recommend doing one or more of the following things to have the relief that you deserve:
–Ice the area: Grab an ice cube out of your freezer, wrap it in a paper towel or washcloth, and place it over the sore. Do not place the ice in direct contact with the skin. Icing the area can help release any burning pain.
–Use a black tea bag: Do you have a black tea bag lying around the house? Black tea contains tannin, a powerful pain-relieving agent. Simply wet the tea bag, squeeze out excess water, and place it over the canker sore.
–Use mouthwash: Did you know that there are products you can purchase at the store that can help alleviate your canker pain? One of these products is a pain-relieving mouthwash, ideal for canker sores on the inside of your mouth. Some of these products are alcohol free and can clean the mouth as well as soothe the irritation–even in sensitive mouths.
–Use pain reliever: An additional choice is to numb the canker and the surrounding area with a numbing agent, like Orajel™ or Orabase®. These products numb the area, protect the canker sore, and promote healing. Once you apply them to the area, you’ll feel immediate relief.
