Vacations are meant for relaxation—not dental emergencies. However, if you’re not careful, your child could hurt their smile or even alter their oral health. This is why it’s important to make sure your child has a strong and healthy smile before you leave on vacation. To help you do so, our dentist, Dr. Stephen Henry, has some recommendations.

The first recommendation is to bring your child into our office for a dental checkup. This can help your child because our dental team will deeply clean the chompers, strengthen the smile, and treat any dental issues your child has. Having a clean, strong, and treated smile can help your child avoid toothaches and other misfortunes while you are away.

The second recommendation is to have oral surgery a month before you leave (if your child needs it). This is recommended because it takes some time to recover from oral surgery, so if your child receives treatment about a month before your departure date, they have plenty of time to feel 100 percent. It also gives you some wiggle room with time if there are complications with the surgery.

The third recommendation is to take your child in to see their orthodontist if they have braces and if they are due for an adjustment appointment when you leave. This is important because if you delay the adjustments, the perfect smile will be delayed as well, so don’t forget to take your child in. This is also important if your child has a broken bracket or wire.
