We occasionally get asked if there are alternatives to false teeth. The first thing we say is that brushing your pearly whites twice a day is a good alternative to false teeth, as is flossing per day!
If you really think dentures might not be right for you, please let Dr. Stephen Henry know; there are some alternatives to dentures. (However, occasionally false teeth are the only option.) One option is dental implants. Similar to partial false teeth, oral implants are not intended to replace all teeth. Instead, implants work next to cemented oral bridges to fill the spaces between your chompers. Implants feel more like real teeth and are not removable, and they can be an awesome replacement for dentures for those who can receive them.
If you do determine to go for dentures, you should understand they won’t always fit as perfectly as when you first got them. The oral cavity consists of living tissue which grows, changes and shifts over time, but the dentures will not alter on their own. This can result in an uncomfortable fit over time, so it’s imperative to stop by our office once every six months or so for regular modifications to your dentures to make sure your dentures have a snug, comfortable fit.
